Minimum Education

Graduate of a CAPTE accredited physical therapy program. (Required)

Required Licenses and Certifications
Current eligibility for a physical therapy license in the District of Columbia (Required) CPR certification (Required)


Required Skills/Knowledge
A demonstrated professional enthusiasm for pediatric care, with a focus on enhancing and developing services to meet the diverse needs of this population.
A solid understanding of pediatric physical therapy principles, growth and development, as well as knowledge of various diseases and disabilities.
Strong interpersonal skills and effective communication abilities, both verbal and written.
Proficiency in computer systems and software applications.

Job Functions
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough evaluations and document relevant findings, including patient and/or family interviews, review of medical history, observations, standardized assessments, and interpretation of results, in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Communicate evaluation outcomes with patients/caregivers and relevant healthcare team members, addressing any inquiries appropriately.
  • When treatment is warranted, provide recommendations regarding further assessments, follow-up, or referrals for additional services, including frequency and duration of therapy, and prognosis. Assess discharge planning needs considering the patient's overall status.
  • Take into account patient/caregiver expectations and limitations when formulating the care plan.
  • Establish measurable and realistic short- and long-term goals based on the patient's medical condition, expected therapeutic outcomes, discharge plans, and input from the patient/family.
  • Refer patients to appropriate specialists when their needs exceed the scope of practice.
  • Independently implement treatment plans in accordance with professional standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Regularly reassess and adjust treatment plans and goals based on the patient's medical status and response to therapy.
  • Involve patients and families in the development of goals and care plans, including discharge planning.
  • Educate and motivate patients and their families to engage in therapeutic activities.
  • Ensure patients and caregivers understand the information provided.
  • Facilitate referrals for necessary equipment and community resources prior to discharge.
  • Adhere to documentation policies regarding evaluations, treatment notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Complete billing accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Utilize outcome measurement tools as per established protocols.
  • Achieve productivity targets as determined by management.
  • Conduct educational sessions for staff.
  • Support the clinical education program as required.
  • Provide supervision and guidance to Rehabilitation Technicians and support staff.
  • Assist in the development and revision of departmental policies and procedures.
  • Manage administrative responsibilities as appropriate.
  • Suggest new equipment and supply purchases as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace for equipment and supplies.
  • Familiarize oneself with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain required skills, licensure, and credentials for the role.
  • Complete necessary training and ensure all competencies are up to date.
  • Foster positive interdepartmental relationships and communication.
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives for the department.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including those governing professional practice.
