Overview:

The role of the Financial Counselor is pivotal in assisting patients who may qualify for various financial support programs within the healthcare system. Additionally, the counselor will provide support for patients seeking enrollment in programs like Family Health Plus or Child Health Plus through partnerships with facilitated enrollers.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Financial Counselor engages directly with patients to assess their financial situations and determine eligibility for assistance programs. This includes:
  • Facilitating access to Medicaid for both ALC and non-ALC patients.
  • Guiding patients through the Financial Aid application process.
  • Establishing manageable payment plans.
  • Following up with patients regarding enrollment in additional health programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor's degree or an Associate's degree is advantageous. A high school diploma is required, along with 2 to 3 years of relevant experience. Advanced degrees may be necessary based on specific departmental needs. Supervisory experience is preferred. Certification or licensure must comply with regulatory standards.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong interpersonal abilities and a comprehensive understanding of regulatory compliance are required. Skills in participatory management and team building are beneficial but not mandatory.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This role may involve limited exposure to bodily fluids and requires adherence to safety protocols.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
This position is primarily sedentary, involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.

WORK CONTACT GROUP:
Interactions will occur with various stakeholders including medical staff, patients, visitors, and regulatory agencies.

SUPERVISION:
Reports to the Coordinator or Manager and may supervise staff.

CAREER PATH:
Opportunities for advancement to Coordinator roles are available.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Engagement in orientation and ongoing education is expected to maintain expertise in the field.

Pay Range:
$19.20-$27.85
