POSITION OVERVIEW:

The role involves the recovery, digitization, and electronic documentation of medical records from various healthcare providers and facilities. This includes utilizing computer and scanning technology to accurately input data into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transform visual and textual records into electronic formats using scanning technology.
  • Ensure timely and efficient scanning of documents containing patient health information into designated folders for EMR integration.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and standards.
  • Accurately import scanned patient health information, ensuring attention to detail in categorizing document types and summaries.
  • Preload clinical data from paper charts into the EMR system.
  • Process requests for the release of medical records, confirming that necessary signatures are obtained.
  • Assess release of information charges appropriately based on the nature of the request (e.g., attorney, SSI).
  • Facilitate immediate processing of requests from other healthcare providers.
  • Ensure that physicians receive returned medical tests and relevant medical information daily.
  • Manage both incoming and outgoing mail daily, including date stamping and distribution to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in mandatory in-service training and departmental meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Preferred experience includes at least one year in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position:

  • Most of the work will involve sitting, with occasional walking, standing, and/or bending.
  • This position may require lifting weights up to 15 pounds.
  • Various types of vision are necessary, including close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception.
