POSITION SUMMARY:

The role involves the recovery, scanning, and electronic documentation of medical records from various healthcare providers and facilities. This is accomplished using advanced computer and scanning technology, ensuring accurate data transfer into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Transform visual and textual records into electronic formats through scanning.
  • Ensure efficient and timely scanning of documents containing patient health information into designated folders for EMR import.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA regulations and standards.
  • Accurately import scanned patient health information, with a strong focus on detail in categorizing document types and summaries.
  • Preload clinical data from paper charts into the EMR system.
  • Manage all requests for medical record information, ensuring proper authorization is obtained.
  • Assess release of information charges based on the nature of the request (e.g., attorney, SSI).
  • Process requests from other healthcare providers promptly.
  • Ensure that physicians receive returned medical tests and relevant medical information daily.
  • Handle both incoming and outgoing mail daily, including date stamping and distribution to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate in required in-service training and departmental meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Preferred: one year of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Most of the work will involve sitting, with occasional walking, standing, and/or bending.
  • This position may require lifting weights up to 15 pounds.
