Job Overview

The Senior Commercial Building Engineer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of commercial buildings. This includes overseeing all aspects of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, to guarantee optimal functionality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and conduct preventative maintenance for building systems and equipment to prevent downtime and ensure optimal performance.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex HVAC, electrical, and plumbing issues to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Oversee building automation and energy management systems to optimize energy consumption and reduce costs.
  • Coordinate and supervise equipment installations and renovations to ensure seamless transitions and minimal disruption to building operations.
  • Develop and maintain project plans and budgets for building maintenance and improvements to ensure timely and cost-effective execution.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations to protect employees, tenants, and the environment.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and provide on-call support to address critical issues promptly.
  • Collaborate with external contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance tasks to leverage expertise and resources.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify areas for improvement and efficiency, and implement corrective actions to optimize building performance.
  • Manage inventory and procurement of maintenance supplies and equipment to ensure timely delivery and minimize downtime.
  • Train and mentor junior engineering staff to develop their skills and knowledge, and ensure a smooth transition of responsibilities.
  • Participate in the development of sustainability initiatives and green building practices to reduce the building's environmental footprint and improve its overall sustainability.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field to provide a strong foundation in building systems and operations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred to demonstrate expertise and commitment to the field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial building maintenance and operations to provide a deep understanding of building systems and operations.
  • Proven expertise in HVAC systems, controls, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Strong understanding of building automation systems and energy management to optimize energy consumption and reduce costs.
  • Experience in project management and budgeting for building maintenance and upgrades to ensure timely and cost-effective execution.
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards to ensure compliance and protect employees, tenants, and the environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and lead teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment to ensure seamless execution and minimal disruption to building operations.
  • Proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite to leverage technology and streamline operations.
  • Certification in facilities management or building automation a plus to demonstrate expertise and commitment to the field.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently to ensure seamless execution and minimal disruption to building operations.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities to resolve complex issues and make informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of sustainable building practices and green certifications to reduce the building's environmental footprint and improve its overall sustainability.
Onsite Kansas City, Missouri

Experience and certifications required:

  • EPA Certification or CFC universal refrigerant card.
  • Multiple years of leadership experience in commercial building maintenance or commercial HVAC.
Technician Duties
  • Service, diagnose, repair chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and commercial HVAC equipment.
Schedule
  • M-F 7am-4pm or 8am-5pm; on-call rotation.
