Patient Care Specialist Job Summary

At East Tennessee Children's Hospital, we are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to join our team as a Patient Care Specialist. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and support to our young patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and identify patient symptoms and problems, reporting unusual data to the RN team leader in a timely manner.
  • Assist in developing and updating the nursing plan of care every shift.
  • Participate in patient care conferences as needed.
  • Assist the physician with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures within the scope of practice.
  • Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
  • Correctly evaluate and thoroughly document the response of the patients to treatments and interventions.
  • Assist in evaluating nursing care.
  • Meet unit and hospital quality management goals.
  • Acquire and maintain hospital and unit-specific competencies.
  • Effectively and professionally interact and collaborate with other providers of patient care.
  • Demonstrate respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Foster mature professional relationships with fellow employees in a courteous, friendly manner as measured by management observation and peer input.
  • Utilize hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably.
  • Willingly accept any other assignment that may be requested.

Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Tennessee; BLS required.
  • One year hospital experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling is required up to 50 lbs occasionally, 20-30 lbs frequently, and 10lbs constantly to move objects of up to 150 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are required.
  • Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
