Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Behavioral Health/Psychiatric RN is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support within the program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit clinical expertise in psychiatric nursing while maintaining high standards of patient care.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills to foster therapeutic relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Recognize and manage potential behavioral issues with compassion and consistency.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of psycho-dynamics and therapeutic interventions, addressing issues as they arise and communicating effectively with the team.
- Accurately document all relevant clinical information in accordance with policies and procedures.
- Employ the nursing process, which encompasses assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Collaborate in the development of master treatment plans with other key staff members.
- Participate in treatment planning meetings to discuss patient progress.
- Conduct patient group sessions and document participation in medical records.
- Engage in discharge planning and referrals, ensuring the accuracy of physician orders and documentation.
- Administer treatments and medications as prescribed, ensuring thorough documentation.
- Demonstrate competency in restraint and seclusion practices, adhering to hospital policies.
- Recognize medical conditions and intervene appropriately, documenting actions in treatment plans.
- Assist in promoting the program through community education and referral development as directed.
- Mentor and orient new staff members.
Qualifications:
- Current Indiana RN licensure or active Compact State RN licensure.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (RN).
- Strong customer service skills with effective listening capabilities.
- Critical thinking and decisive judgment skills, with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- BLS Certification and completion of Crisis Prevention Certification training within 30 days of hire.
