JOB SUMMARY:
The Urban Horticulture Agent is an integral part of the Extension team at Clemson University.
This role involves collaborating with county and state personnel to design, execute, maintain, and assess educational programs for diverse adult and youth audiences in horticulture.
Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.JOB DUTIES:
60% - Essential - Program Management and Development - Create, implement, and assess educational initiatives within the Horticulture Program Area targeting both adult and youth participants.
Utilize direct educational methods such as personal consultations, workshops, group discussions, tours, demonstrations, and volunteer training, including online and virtual strategies.
Disseminate knowledge through indirect channels such as written materials, audio-visual aids, and social media content. Document the impact of programs for relevant stakeholders.
10% - Essential - Resource Sustainability - Oversee the development, management, and sustainability of resources to support educational initiatives, including grants, contracts, donations, sponsorships, and local and state funding sources.
10% - Essential - Advocacy and Partnerships - Collaborate with the Extension Advisory Council, Advocacy Committees, local and state officials, and stakeholders to plan educational phases of the county program that align with the overall Extension mission.
10% - Essential - Internal Collaboration - Work with various Program Teams to create, deliver, and evaluate educational programming beyond the primary focus area using both direct and indirect methods.
Assist with daily operations of county offices by being present, available to staff and the public, and addressing general inquiries related to Extension.
10% - Essential - Professional Development - Seek and engage in opportunities for self-improvement and professional growth through training and development programs, with prior supervisory approval for participation.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture, Plant Sciences, or a related discipline.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Master's Degree
RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB KNOWLEDGE
Possess a fundamental understanding of horticultural concepts, practices, and procedures, with the ability to apply this knowledge in various contexts.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Acts as Lead - Provides guidance to others performing similar tasks.
BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitors Budget - Responsible for overseeing the departmental budget without direct input on fund allocation.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Ability to stand for extended periods
Mobility to walk or move around
Capable of using hands or feet for operating equipment
Ability to ascend or descend stairs or ladders
Flexibility to perform tasks such as stooping or kneeling
Effective communication skills
Visual recognition and inspection capabilities
Ability to lift, transport, or adjust items
Capability to extend arms in various directions
Ability to use taste or smell for detection purposes
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to varying temperatures
Exposure to dust and fumes
Wet or humid environments

Potential for overnight travel

Standard Hours: 37.5
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
Expected Salary Range ($37,900 - $51,500)
Salary is influenced by various factors, including prior experience, skills, and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation policies.
Essential Level 2 employee
Required to maintain critical support functions and provide direct services as needed.
