Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Service Forester to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As a Service Forester, you will be responsible for providing professional oversight and expertise in forest management programs to multiple counties in assigned districts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and analyze forest data to provide technical advice to landowners
  • Write management plans for non-industrial private forest landowners
  • Interact with consulting foresters, as well as other professional state and local government land managers for forestry-related technical assistance
  • Conduct environmental compliance inspections for regulations related to forestry activities
  • Respond to emergencies such as wildland fires and natural disasters
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in forestry from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited institution
  • Registered by the North Carolina Board of Registration for Foresters
  • Valid driver's license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of forest management
  • Knowledge of collecting and analyzing forestry data
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats
  • Ability to be self-motivated, a team player, and able to remain calm under stress
Preferred Qualifications
  • Wildland Firefighter II qualified under the National Wildfire Coordinating Group standards
  • Experienced with prescribed fire
  • Experienced in public speaking
  • Knowledge of forested wetland and water quality regulations
  • Management plan writing
  • Mapping grade GPS units and ArcMap GIS software
