Custodian Assistant

The Custodian I is a vital member of the Wheaton College facilities team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of assigned areas. This role requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Clean and maintain assigned facilities, adhering to departmental standards and protocols.
• Monitor and control supply inventory, reporting needs to supervisors as necessary.
• Assist in cleaning outside of normal work areas during staffing shortages, and perform additional tasks as assigned.
• Communicate with supervisors regarding building or cleaning needs, including emergencies and safety concerns.
• Respond to campus emergencies requiring cleaning services, both during and after work hours.
• Implement and adhere to chemical and work safety rules.
• Perform specialized cleaning tasks, such as floor care and hard floor maintenance, as assigned.
• Participate in required training and professional development opportunities.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous custodial experience preferred.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Reliability and ability to meet established timelines.
• Self-motivation and efficient time management skills.
• Ability to follow routines and detailed instructions.
• Completion of Blood Borne Pathogen training and Physical Exam.

The Custodian I is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, climb, crawl, crouch, stoop, kneel, bend, push, pull, lift, and carry up to 30 pounds.
