The Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (RN EP) plays a crucial role in delivering specialized nursing care to patients undergoing procedures aimed at diagnosing and treating cardiac rhythm disorders. This position requires collaboration with electrophysiologists, cardiologists, and a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-Procedure Responsibilities:
    • Conduct thorough patient assessments and review medical histories prior to procedures.
    • Provide education to patients and their families regarding the procedure, associated risks, and aftercare.
    • Secure informed consent from patients for the procedures.
    • Administer prescribed medications prior to the procedure.
  • Intra-Procedure Responsibilities:
    • Assist electrophysiologists during various procedures including studies, ablations, and device implants.
    • Monitor and document vital signs and cardiac rhythms throughout the procedures.
    • Ensure the sterility and functionality of all lab equipment.
    • Operate and troubleshoot electrophysiology lab technology.
  • Post-Procedure Responsibilities:
    • Monitor patients in recovery for stable vital signs and manage any immediate complications.
    • Educate patients and families on post-procedure care and follow-up instructions.
    • Administer post-procedural medications and provide necessary wound care.
  • Patient Education and Support:
    • Educate patients and families about heart rhythm disorders and treatment options.
    • Offer emotional support and address any concerns from patients and families.
  • Documentation and Compliance:
    • Accurately document all patient care activities and responses.
    • Adhere to hospital policies and regulatory standards in patient care.
  • Collaboration and Communication:

  • Professional Development:

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in critical care, cardiac care, or electrophysiology.
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS certifications required; EP certification preferred.
