Position Summary:
The Electrophysiology Registered Nurse (RN EP) plays a crucial role in delivering specialized nursing care to patients undergoing procedures aimed at diagnosing and treating heart rhythm disorders. This position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including electrophysiologists and cardiologists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Pre-Procedure Duties:
Conduct thorough patient assessments and review medical histories prior to electrophysiology procedures. Educate patients and their families about the procedures, associated risks, and post-procedure care. Ensure informed consent is obtained and administer prescribed pre-procedural medications. - Intra-Procedure Responsibilities:
Assist electrophysiologists during various procedures, including EP studies and device implants. Monitor patients' vital signs and cardiac rhythms, ensuring the functionality and sterility of all equipment used in the EP lab. - Post-Procedure Care:
Oversee patients in recovery, monitoring for stable vital signs and managing any immediate complications. Provide comprehensive post-procedure education to patients and families, including care instructions and follow-up requirements. - Patient Education:
Inform patients and families about heart rhythm disorders, treatment options, and necessary lifestyle adjustments. Offer emotional support and address any concerns they may have. - Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of patient care activities, including pre- and post-procedure notes and medication administration. Ensure compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the electrophysiology team and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to contribute to patient care planning. - Professional Development:
Stay informed about advancements in electrophysiology and cardiac care through continuing education and training. Maintain all required certifications and licensure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in critical care, cardiac care, or electrophysiology is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are mandatory.
- Certification in Electrophysiology (e.g., Certified Electrophysiology Specialist - CEPS) is preferred.
