About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Law Clerk to join our team in Salt Lake City. As a Law Clerk, you will play a vital role in assisting with various legal tasks and supporting our prosecutors in their duties.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of legal documents, including formal information summons, bench warrants, complaints, court docket files, and other legal documents.
  • Obtaining police reports, rap sheets, driving records, and requesting other supporting evidence for criminal matters.
  • Performing complex clerical work with accuracy, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees and other departments in the city.
  • Preparing legal pleadings, subpoenas, discovery responses, and other supporting legal documents and correspondence as directed by the City Prosecutor and/or Prosecuting Attorneys.
  • Maintaining calendars of arraignments, pre-trial and other pre and post judgment hearings, including jury and non-jury trials.
  • Managing and utilizing complex computerized filing systems following departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • High school graduation or equivalent, plus some clerical experience.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs and operate various standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and comply with established policy and procedures.
  • Ability to handle sensitive materials in a confidential manner.
  • Ability to relate with persons from diverse socio-economic and racial/ethnic backgrounds.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
  • Must be certified by the Bureau of Criminal Investigations within three months of hire date.
  • Ability to become a notary within six (6) months.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is between $18.23/hr. and $30.08/hr., with an established market rate of $24.16/hr. The actual salary will be commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experience.

This position is eligible for full city benefits, including health insurance, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid vacation and personal leave, twelve weeks of paid parental leave, retirement contributions, and more.
