Safety Compliance Specialist

Position Overview:
The Safety Compliance Specialist at FERGUSON is tasked with the critical role of developing, implementing, and overseeing safety protocols and procedures that align with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA standards. This position plays a vital role in ensuring a safe working environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough investigations of accidents, analyze incident reports, identify trends, and determine root causes to implement effective corrective measures.
- Perform regular safety audits on-site to detect potential hazards and evaluate risks.
- Engage with safety representatives across various projects and insurance entities to uphold compliance and promote best practices.
- Facilitate quarterly safety meetings to enhance awareness and communication regarding safety protocols.
- Foster positive relationships with project managers, foremen, and construction representatives to ensure cohesive safety practices.
- Verify that all personnel possess valid OSHA certifications, CPR training, and other essential safety qualifications.
- Monitor safety claims and work towards effective resolutions.
- Develop and implement Task-Specific Safe Work Plans and Job Hazard Analyses to mitigate risks.
- Issue and manage Toolbox Talks to ensure ongoing safety discussions.
- Update and maintain the Health and Safety Plan (HASP) and safety handbook as necessary.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Conduct training sessions on various safety topics, including OSHA regulations, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
- Guarantee compliance with OSHA standards and safety protocols, including the provision of necessary personal protective equipment.
- Stay informed about emerging safety trends and communicate with management regarding necessary updates or acquisitions.
- Review and refresh safety data sheets (SDS) for hazardous materials.
- Implement and oversee a safety incentive program to encourage safe work practices.
- Investigate near-miss incidents and establish preventive strategies.
- Participate in industry-specific safety committees or organizations to promote best practices.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive emergency response plans and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety drills to assess emergency preparedness.
- Coordinate with external agencies for effective emergency response.
- Provide safety orientation for new hires and subcontractors.
- Ensure meticulous record-keeping and documentation of all safety-related activities.
Qualifications:
- OSHA 30 certification (must be within the last five years)
- CPR certification
- Training in reasonable suspicion
- Strong organizational and communication abilities
- Dependable and independent work ethic
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Willingness to engage in company-wide systems for project tracking and communication
- Relevant certifications and training in occupational health and safety, with the capability to conduct training and provide certifications
