Job Overview

Company Overview:
Block is a pioneering technology firm that aims to reshape the financial landscape. Established in 2013, our flagship product, Cash App, has evolved from a straightforward peer-to-peer payment solution into a comprehensive financial ecosystem. We are dedicated to enhancing the way our 47 million monthly active users send, spend, invest, borrow, and save money, making financial interactions more relatable and accessible.

Role Summary:
The Financial Crimes Technology division at Cash App is tasked with identifying and reporting illicit and suspicious activities. Collaborating with teams across Product, Legal, and Engineering, we strive to deliver a secure user experience while effectively mitigating harmful activities on our platform.

Our approach incorporates Machine Learning and Generative AI as vital components in our strategy. As Cash App expands, we oversee transactions amounting to hundreds of billions across both traditional and blockchain payment networks. Our advanced machine learning systems are designed to detect and highlight suspicious activities such as money laundering and violations of terms of service for further investigation. We also implement generative AI technologies to enhance agent workflows and case review processes, thereby improving productivity and decision-making accuracy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee Cash App's Machine Learning-based Customer Risk Rating initiative to identify onboarding and ongoing risks, ensuring compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) and Know Your Business (KYB) standards.
  • Develop classification models aimed at detecting unauthorized use of the application across various financial products.
  • Utilize diverse datasets, including transaction data, user connections, and unstructured text, to construct ML and generative AI models.
  • Experiment with and deploy AI-driven solutions at scale to enhance agent efficiency and minimize manual decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Machine Learning Engineers and platform services to implement models in production and monitor their performance.
  • Employ a Python-based ML stack, including tools such as Pytorch, Snowflake, and Airflow, along with cloud services like GCP and AWS.

Qualifications:

Essential Skills:
Minimum of 4 years of experience in Machine Learning modeling with a comprehensive understanding of the ML lifecycle.

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field such as computer science, data science, or applied mathematics.
  • Proven experience in building and deploying ML systems that operate efficiently at scale.
  • Familiarity with advanced ML methodologies, including large language models and graph convolutional networks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives that yield significant business outcomes.
  • A proactive mindset with a focus on innovative problem-solving.

Additional Information:
Block adopts a market-driven approach to compensation, which may vary based on geographic location and other factors. Our full-time employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare coverage, retirement plans, wellness programs, and generous paid leave policies.
