Our i-STAT System exemplifies a cutting-edge, portable diagnostic instrument that yields real-time, laboratory-quality results in mere minutes, thereby expediting decision-making in patient care.

We are currently seeking a Director of Medical Affairs for the Americas, who will be responsible for the operational management and strategic oversight of the Medical Sciences Liaison (MSL) team, while also serving as a representative for Medical Affairs both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct reporting to the Senior Director of Global Medical & Scientific Affairs (GMSA) at Abbott Point of Care.
  • Contributing to the global strategy for Medical & Scientific Affairs in collaboration with the Directors of EMEA and APAC Medical Affairs.
  • Overseeing personnel and project management, ensuring MSL team members maintain accurate and comprehensive databases, including documentation of customer interactions and responses to medical inquiries.
  • Managing Medical Affairs initiatives within the allocated budget, effectively distributing resources to support key business objectives.
  • Facilitating cross-functional integration of the MSL team at the field level to enhance the execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Engaging in collaborative efforts with Clinical Affairs, R&D, Regulatory, Quality, OEC, Legal, and Global Marketing & Commercial teams.
  • Providing support to the Senior Director of GMSA, including representation of Medical Affairs at professional medical congresses and stakeholder groups as necessary.
  • Assisting Marketing and Commercial teams with medical and clinical insights related to the product portfolio and developing initiatives to promote medical education.
  • Creating and updating clinical and medical content for internal and external educational purposes related to the product offerings.
  • Organizing and moderating regular Medical Advisory Boards in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Overseeing the budget associated with the role, including the approval of MSL team expense reports.

Qualifications:

  • MD or DO is required; a Ph.D. is advantageous.
  • Preferred background in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Critical Care.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience, combining residency, direct patient care (3 years post-residency), and industry experience (5 years).
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation capabilities.
  • Proficient in interpreting clinical data and scientific information to effectively communicate with healthcare professionals and customers.
