Role Summary:
The Manager of Conservation Education for Families plays a vital role in advancing DZCA's mission by developing programs that establish foundational connections to nature for young children and their caregivers. This position aims to cultivate interest in wildlife and the natural environment while empowering families to engage in age-appropriate conservation activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership of Early Childhood and Family Programs:
Oversee the creation, execution, and assessment of educational initiatives for children, families, and caregivers, emphasizing connections between diverse communities and nature-based learning. - Community Engagement:
Responsible for on-site and community-based nature play initiatives, partnerships with preschools, family involvement, educator training, and seasonal camps. - Support for Conservation Education Staff:
Recruit, train, evaluate, and promote the development of staff; facilitate goal setting, performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback. - Team Leadership:
Collaborate with fellow leaders to align departmental strategies and priorities, utilizing proactive problem-solving and inclusive decision-making. - Additional Responsibilities:
Assist the Director of Conservation Learning with various tasks to support departmental and organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
- Completion or pursuit of a degree in education, environmental education, or a related field.
- A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in environmental education, preferably in a nonprofit zoo, museum, or similar institution.
- Proven ability to foster a welcoming and united team environment.
- Strong understanding of best practices in education, particularly in outcomes-based program development and conservation.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
Position Conditions:
Candidates must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment screenings. A valid driver's license is required. This is a full-time position with comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, and retirement plans.
