Pharmacy Technician, Tisch Hospital

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at NYU Langone Health. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our pharmacists in providing exceptional patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
- Conduct unit inspections and expiration tracking reports to maintain a safe and efficient pharmacy environment.
- Store and secure medications, and review stock for expired medications.
- Place and expedite orders, verify receipts, and receive shipments as needed.
- Verify accurate drug receiving and document on the corresponding invoice or packing slip.
- Record receiving in Epic and supplier website as per department guidelines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of State and Federal laws related to the handling of controlled substances.
- Demonstrate proficiency with applicable Pharmacy technology.
- Demonstrate proficiency with medication procurement process, stocking, and deliveries to units in a timely manner.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock, anticipating medication demands, and removing outdated medications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique and IV room procedures.
- Prepare and accurately document sterile product compounding under the supervision of a Pharmacist.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain equipment and work areas according to procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Demonstrate proficiency when repacking needed doses.
- Demonstrate proficiency with Hospital Information System, review patient information in the medical record system, and print labels when necessary.
- Demonstrate proficiency with unit dose drug distribution.
- Maintain Pharmacy files for patient medication profiles and pull these charts for the Pharmacists as needed.
- Participate in the training of newly hired Pharmacy Technicians based on departmental training guidelines.
- Answer telephone with courtesy and promptness, stating their name and department. Triage phone calls as appropriate, facilitate medication order workflow, and troubleshoot interdepartmental medication order inquiries.
- Interact with healthcare providers and patients, answer questions and requests, and refer inquiries to a Pharmacist where applicable.
- Check current inventory to determine drug and products to be ordered. Place orders with drug wholesaler, materials management, or specialty pharmacy supplier. Receive medication and supplies promptly and store in appropriate areas. Accurately document receiving of drugs and supplies, and alert Pharmacy manager of problems or discrepancies.
- Maintain pharmacy technician certification and registration as prescribed by the New York State Education Department.
- Maintain and timely submit appropriate continuing education hours to support ongoing registration.
Requirements:
To qualify for this role, you must have a High School Diploma and 2 years prior experience as a Pharm Tech or have successfully completed the NYU Pharmacy Technician training program. You must have knowledge and understanding of medical and pharmaceutical terminology, as well as knowledge of procedures and standards for the labeling and dispensing of drugs. You must be able to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures. Excellent organization and communication skills, and strong attention to detail are required. Strong background in the use of computers and basic Microsoft programs is also necessary. Pharmacy Technician certification and registration as prescribed by the New York State Education Department are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
An Associate's Degree is preferred. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
