Key Responsibilities

The PACU Nurse plays a crucial role in the recovery of patients post-anesthesia, whether they are undergoing general, regional, or local anesthesia. This position involves monitoring vital signs and assessing the needs of both inpatient and outpatient individuals to provide tailored care. Our collaborative approach encourages cross-training among staff to meet dynamic patient requirements.

Essential Duties

  • Uphold the mission and values of the organization.
  • Adhere to Universal Precautions and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Gather and document comprehensive nursing histories from patients and their families.
  • Conduct basic patient assessments with a solid understanding of anatomy and physiology.
  • Monitor and support patients as they recover from anesthesia.
  • Deliver safe and compassionate pre- and postoperative care.
  • Record vital signs and note any changes, initiating further assessments as necessary.
  • Identify and report abnormal diagnostic data to the healthcare team.
  • Develop and review care plans, ensuring effective communication with patients and families.
  • Utilize assessment data to create actionable care plans for incoming shifts.
  • Ensure quality care by adhering to established standards and protocols.
  • Take responsibility for the clinical care of assigned patients, including oversight of support staff.
  • Evaluate patient responses to care and document findings accurately.
  • Administer medications safely and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Manage nursing supplies effectively to ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through continuous education and participation in professional organizations.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN licensure in the state of practice.
  • Preferred: Two years of experience in perioperative services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.
