Role Responsibilities
The PACU Nurse is responsible for the care of patients recovering from anesthesia, whether they are inpatients or outpatients. This includes monitoring vital signs and providing necessary care based on individual patient needs. Our center operates on a collaborative team approach, and staff may be cross-trained in various clinical areas to meet changing patient demands.

- Follow Universal Precautions and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Gather and document comprehensive nursing histories from patients and/or their significant others.
- Conduct basic patient assessments demonstrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Monitor and support patients post-operation, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia.
- Deliver safe, efficient, and compassionate pre- and postoperative care.
- Record vital signs, noting any changes and initiating further investigations as necessary.
- Identify abnormal diagnostic data and communicate findings to the physician and care team.
- Develop and review care plans for assigned patients, ensuring effective communication with patients and their families.
- Utilize assessment information to create care plans before the end of the shift for seamless patient handoff.
- Ensure quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards and making necessary adjustments as needed.
- Take accountability for the clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional staff.
- Evaluate patient responses to nursing care as outlined in the care plan.
- Safely prepare, document, and administer medications, maintaining accurate inventory.
- Manage nursing supplies inventory by anticipating needs and placing orders as required.
- Enhance professional knowledge through educational workshops and professional publications.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program.
- Current registered nurse licensure in the state of employment.
- Preferred: Two years of experience in perioperative services.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
