About the Role

Kaiser Permanente is seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team in Arlington, Virginia.

Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will perform ultrasound examinations of patients as requested by referring physicians, utilizing your expertise to obtain diagnostic information and provide high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ultrasound examinations, selecting the appropriate machine and probe to obtain diagnostic information.
  • Apply gel to patients' skin, apply probe, and monitor equipment to obtain ultrasound images.
  • Process film and review images to confirm that they meet radiologists' requirements.
  • Prepare initial diagnosis by identifying abnormal conditions for review by radiologist.
  • Use ultrasound equipment to assist providers in conducting invasive procedures.
  • Maintain equipment and examination room, store film, and keep inventory of related supplies.
  • Prepare patient information files with patient identification, date of exam, referring physician, and exam performed.
  • Prepare and submit reports showing the number and type of examinations conducted.
Requirements
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a sonographer, including on-the-job training and internships.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
  • Completion of an ARDMS accredited or equivalent program in ultrasound technology required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Abdomen within 12 months of hire OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn within 12 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications such as breast or RVT preferred.
