Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and physically fit individual to join our Public Works Department as a Leaf Collection Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting and disposing of leaves during our loose-leaf season, as well as assisting with various maintenance tasks throughout the city.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • Performing a variety of maintenance tasks such as removing leaves and debris, trimming shrubbery, and clearing and landscaping grounds.
  • Cleaning out catch basins using shovels and pitchforks.
  • Sweeps and cleans sidewalks and streets.
  • Cleans buildings, washes floors and windows, and cleans/stocks restrooms.
  • Cleans public grounds by picking up trash.
  • Plants, waters, fertilizes, and trims trees and plant materials.
  • Operates push mowers, trimmers, and other related tools/equipment.
  • Assists in other departmental crews as needed.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of light equipment, and materials used in assigned work.
  • Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods, often under adverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate the tools, machines, and equipment used in the leaf removal process.
  • Ability to communicate ideas clearly, concisely, and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, supervisors, and the general public.
