Role of a Behavior Support Specialist

As an integral part of the Clinical Services team at The Arc Lexington, the Behavior Support Specialist (BSS) is dedicated to empowering individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. This role focuses on fostering positive behavior through the establishment of supportive relationships and the development of Positive Behavior Supports. The BSS collaborates closely with each individual and their support team to create tailored Support Plans, providing essential training and guidance to address mental, emotional, and social health needs.

The BSS conducts thorough functional analyses to identify behavioral challenges and subsequently designs and implements training programs for individuals and their teams. The goal is to promote independence and help individuals achieve their personal life objectives. Our commitment to professional development ensures that BSS team members have access to continuous learning opportunities, enhancing their unique skill sets.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant clinical or treatment field such as psychology, social work, school psychology, applied psychology, or a related human services discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals with disabilities.
  • A valid driver's license in accordance with Agency standards is mandatory.
  • Personal vehicle usage is necessary.
