Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Engineer to join our team at J.F. Shea Family of Companies. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of building systems and equipment, as well as performing preventative maintenance and unscheduled repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and Maintain Building Systems: The Building Engineer will be responsible for operating and maintaining building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance: The Building Engineer will perform regular preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the smooth operation of building systems and equipment.
  • Respond to Service Requests: The Building Engineer will respond to service requests in a timely and efficient manner, including troubleshooting and repairing equipment and systems.
  • Conduct Building Rounds: The Building Engineer will conduct regular building rounds to ensure that all systems and equipment are functioning properly.
  • Ensure Safety and Compliance: The Building Engineer will ensure that all safety and compliance procedures are followed, including hazardous communication, lockout-tagout, and asbestos O&M.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: A minimum of 3 years' experience in property maintenance and mechanical repairs, with a two-year trade school certificate emphasizing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building control systems.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills and the ability to create and close out work orders.
  • Soft Skills: Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to give clear direction and respond to inquiries.
Work Environment

The Building Engineer will work primarily at multiple properties, interacting with external and internal customers and vendors on a regular basis. The position's work schedule will vary depending on the property, with hours typically scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and working week days (Monday to Friday). The Building Engineer must be available to work overtime as needed and work on-call schedules.

Physical Requirements

The Building Engineer's physical condition must be sufficient for the consistent and successful completion of the specific responsibilities defined for this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, and hear. May be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and operate power tools.
