Cytologist - Diagnostic Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytologist to join our team at Altru Health. As a Cytologist, you will play a critical role in detecting, differentiating, and diagnosing the presence or absence of disease in gynecological and non-gynecological samples.
Key Responsibilities- Microscopic Examination: Perform microscopic examination on gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, differentiating and identifying all cells on the slides using established cytologic criteria.
- Provisional Diagnosis: Detect, select, and clearly mark cells most representative of pathological processes present and prepare a provisional diagnosis for all gynecological and non-gynecological cases referred to the cytology supervisor or pathologist.
- Specimen Acceptability: Interpret acceptability of specimens received for testing, communicate correct specimen collection, transport requirements, and specimen unacceptability issues to appropriate caregivers in a timely manner, ensuring that documentation is completed according to standard operating procedure.
- Fine Needle Aspirates: Assist in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates following standard operating procedure.
- Quality Control: Exercise initiative and judgment in investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving QC failure, inform next level of authority as necessary, and document all action taken.
- Final Diagnosis: Prepare a final diagnosis using established cytologic terminology for gynecologic specimens reported as within normal limits.
- Slide Preparation: Perform accessioning, routine staining, and coverslipping of cytologic slides.
- Specimen Identification: Maintain clear and concise specimen identification throughout the entire analytical process.
- Certification: Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of start date.
- Education and Experience: Meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologist.
This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
