Job Summary:

As a Physical Therapist at Bancroft, you will provide direct, consultative, and supportive diagnostic and therapeutic physical therapy services to enhance the individual potential for learning and to meet the specific rehabilitation needs of persons served. Our ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Physical Therapy and a current N.J. State Physical Therapist license, with a minimum of one year of work experience in physical therapy, preferably working with neurologically-impaired individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

Conduct diagnostic assessments of need for physical therapy services and develop treatment plans for individual persons served.
Determine the need for therapeutic intervention for each person served, review individual records, administer standardized testing, perform formal and informal testing, conduct specialized screenings, interpret assessment results, and provide recommendations for service delivery.
Perform assessment of the individuals daily living activities within the Bancroft residential setting to determine individual capabilities, limitations, and rehabilitation needs.
Develop and modify treatment plans based upon the individuals abilities, as requested by team members, provide reassessment of persons served, focusing on targeted areas of need at established intervals.
Plan and develop goals specific to physical therapy and treatment services that are achievable, functional, measurable, and will be effectively utilized in each individuals rehabilitation program.
Provide direct and consultative treatment services in physical therapy to persons served, effectively utilize available information regarding therapy and treatment for each person served, provide assistance in the development of physical therapy and treatment-specific goals and objectives.
Assist program management in the design of functional strategies and the need for adaptive equipment that enhances learning and create an environment best suited to individual profile and needs.
Provide individual, group, and integrated direct treatment, therapy, and/or special rehabilitation skills to persons served, prompt and/or assist each person in the achievement of goals while actively encouraging the independence and competency of each person within his/her ability limit.
Plan and schedule frequency and duration of sessions in accordance with individual needs, provide suggestions regarding the utilization of techniques and/or materials to support and enhance functional abilities, recommend appropriate adaptive equipment to facilitate optimal functioning, provide recommendations regarding positioning, identify barriers that may impede individual progress, and recommend environmental accommodations to support functioning and facilitate the carryover of therapeutic goals.
Demonstrate and instruct persons served and staff in the proper use of functional and adaptive equipment, devices and physical therapy techniques, e.g., computer use, positioning and feeding equipment, manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise, gait and functional training, etc.
Utilize a system of documentation that is professional, efficient, accountable, and conforms to federal, state and other applicable policies and procedures, develop and maintain progress reports, session notes, treatment summary reports, etc., as required by the IPP.
Provide training on a variety of topics and specific to physical therapy to persons served and staff members regarding the implementation and monitoring of treatment plans, etc.
Facilitate a team approach to program development, implementation, and monitoring by effectively collaborating with all specialty/clinical disciplines, parents/guardians, residential and day program staff, etc., to identify and best meet the individual rehabilitation needs of each person served.
Actively participate in monthly team/departmental meetings, etc., and serve as a member of the Trans-Disciplinary Team (TDT) process in conjunction with the Individual Program Plan (IPP).
Communicate results of assessments and treatment plans to persons served, family members, residential and day program staff, external case managers, etc.
Provide crisis intervention, as needed, through de-escalation techniques, staff support, and assistance, follow state-approved emergency procedures and utilize Bancroft-approved crisis intervention techniques at all times.
Ensure the site operates in accordance with the organizations quality standards for safety, security, and cleanliness, as well as applicable state licensing and accreditation standards.
May work with physical therapy students throughout course of assignment in the assessment and treatment of persons served, provide daily advice and guidance to students and strive to increase students knowledge of discipline-specific methods and techniques.
Maintain an awareness of current and changing trends, techniques, methods, and research in the field of physical therapy and treatments by attending learning workshops and professional seminars, reading journals, attending in-service workshops, external conferences in area of specialty/clinical discipline, etc.
Serve as a role model to persons served and staff members by projecting a positive self-image of professionalism, appearance, confidentiality, courtesy, conduct, honesty, fairness, personal integrity, and a respect for the fundamental rights, dignity, and privacy of others.
Perform other direct service, consultative, assessment, and supportive duties specific to physical therapy and treatment services as assigned or as necessary.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Physical Therapy and a current N.J. State Physical Therapist license required.
Minimum of one year of work experience in physical therapy, preferably working with neurologically-impaired individuals.
