Position Overview

The Bristal Assisted Living is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sous Chef/Assistant Director of Food Service to enhance our culinary team. This role is pivotal in delivering exceptional dining experiences for our residents, ensuring that every meal is not only nutritious but also delightful.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of meals, adhering to our established recipes and community standards.
  • Assist the Director of Food Service with inventory management, including the receipt and storage of food items, while maintaining compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Step into the Director of Food Service role during their absence, ensuring continuity in operations.
  • Uphold the highest standards of personal hygiene and appearance in line with organizational policies.
  • Implement portion control measures for meal plating, utilizing appropriate tools for accuracy.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and sanitation of kitchen equipment, following guidelines from the Director of Food Service.
  • Complete all necessary documentation accurately and promptly, including temperature logs and incident reports.
  • Engage in special dining events and resident activities, contributing to a vibrant community atmosphere.
  • Respond to resident inquiries and requests with professionalism and courtesy.
  • Educate potential residents and families about our food service programs as part of our community outreach.
  • Assist in training new kitchen staff, fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Support fellow team members in their tasks as needed, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork.
  • Adapt to changing circumstances and needs within the kitchen, maintaining a positive approach.
  • Adhere to safety protocols, including infection control measures, to ensure a secure workplace.
  • Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of Food Service.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in food preparation and handling, with a strong understanding of sanitation and safety standards.
  • Familiarity with local health codes and regulations.
  • Experience in supervising kitchen operations.
  • Proficient in operating kitchen equipment and tools.
  • High School diploma required; culinary school education preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, following written and verbal instructions.
