Facilities Maintenance Technician

Central Arizona College is seeking a skilled Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of general maintenance and repair tasks within electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and grounds maintenance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment maintenance and repair.
ResponsibilitiesKey Duties:
- Perform routine maintenance and repair activities on campus facilities, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and painting tasks.
- Conduct inspections and identify problem areas in need of repair.
- Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment to complete assignments.
- Record time spent on activities completed on work orders and PMs.
- Estimate project material needs and operate small equipment.
- Drive vans and large trucks not requiring a CDL.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform basic troubleshooting procedures to identify defective machinery and equipment.
- Identify parts, materials, and tools required for tasks.
- Participate in committee assignments and contribute to the recruitment and retention of students.
Education and Experience:
- Focused training and certification in maintenance and repair.
- 5 years of experience with certification or 7 years of experience without certification.
Special Position Conditions:
- Must have or be able to obtain an Arizona Driver's License and be insurable to drive college vehicles.
- Knowledge of minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical equipment maintenance and repair.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques in building maintenance and repair.
- Ability to use grinders, saws, drills, and other equipment.
- Knowledge of methods and procedures used to estimate materials and tools needed to complete a task.
- Knowledge of current DOT highway safety laws and practices pertaining to the operation of college vehicles.
- Minor mechanical, plumbing, and electrical repair/maintenance and painting skills.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor in performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to operate a variety of equipment common to mechanical maintenance of facilities.
- Must be able to drive a vehicle and have or be willing to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Drivers License.
- Skill in communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with college administrators, faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability to work independently as a team in completing tasks.
- Perform heavy manual labor requiring dexterity, physical steadiness, and awkward reaches.
- Stand or walk for seven hours a day.
- Use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms for the purpose of maintenance and working with hand tools and power tools.
- Climb or balance on ladders to get on roofs or replace light bulbs or work on equipment, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl in confined spaces.
- Lift and/or move 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
