Correctional Officer II

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Correctional Officer II to join our team at the Essex County Correctional Facility. As a Correctional Officer II, you will play a critical role in maintaining order and security within the facility, ensuring the safety and well-being of inmates and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain custodial care and control of inmates, including escorting them under restraint, patrolling facilities, and conducting head counts and security checks.
- Supervise and direct inmates during work assignments to maintain order and security.
- Monitor inmate movements and whereabouts, noting significant behavioral patterns to prevent disturbances and crises.
- Investigate suspicious inmate activity, searching individuals, packages, mail, and inmate quarters for contraband.
- Develop working relationships with inmates by referring them to supportive services and fostering an atmosphere of cooperation between inmates and staff.
- Prepare written reports on incidents, accidents, and security breaches, and make entries into the unit log.
- Perform related duties such as screening visitors, operating two-way radios, and carrying firearms.
- 19 years of age or older.
- High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Ability to qualify in all phases of testing (written, medical, physical, and psychological).
- Ability to instruct, counsel, and advise inmates, with a focus on rehabilitation and return to society.
- Regular and predictable work attendance.
- Ability to act calmly and make decisions quickly in emergency situations.
This position requires working in a correctional facility, which may involve intermittent moderate physical effort and potential risk of injury. The incumbent must be able to adapt to varying work situations and interact with people who are under physical and/or emotional stress.
