Summary:

As a member of the interdisciplinary Psychiatry Consult team, you will utilize the nursing process to deliver comprehensive and developmentally appropriate care to high-risk behavioral patients and their families. You will act as a psychiatric resource to the bedside teams, providing clinical support, monitoring compliance with system policies, guidelines, and documentation, and maintaining a safe environment for patients with mental health needs in the acute care, ICU, and ED areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Use clinical judgment to globally assess the patient's situation and provide skilled nursing care to patients and families according to their identified needs.
  • Support bedside staff in providing a safe environment for patients with high-risk behaviors by inspecting rooms, proactively identifying potential safety hazards, and removing at-risk items.
  • Provide content expertise and education to staff caring for high-risk patients and assist staff in finding available resources related to behavioral health patients.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary BERT team to ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Review documentation and orders in EPIC and collaborate with the safety assistant and bedside RN to ensure that the patient's level of observation is appropriate, and documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Identify patient care concerns in real time and collaborate and escalate as needed to promote resolution.
  • Provide education and facilitate learning for the patient care team related to constant visual observation guidelines and policies, therapeutic interactions, and patient safety.
Requirements:
  • At least 2 years job-related experience
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • PACES certification within 6 months of hire
  • Initial Pediatric Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviors (PPMAB) training
