Job Summary

The primary focus of this position will be to support adults with developmental disabilities to increase their independence through the use of Assistive Technology. This includes the development of communication supports that range from low-tech solutions to the utilization of AAC devices. The successful candidate will participate as a member of a multidisciplinary team for individuals with intense behavioral needs as well as an assistive technology team for individuals who receive Summit DD services. Service settings include in-home, day service, and employment environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Evaluation of this position is based primarily on performance of the following essential functions, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Completion of screening and assessment of speech, language, swallowing, cognitive aspects of communication, augmentative and alternative communication, and hearing (screening only).
  • Devises treatment programs for specific individuals and/or small groups, including development of intervention plans, education and in-service training to families, caregivers, and professionals, provision of direct services, monitoring and summarizing data from treatment programs, provision of follow-up services, and completion of documentation.
  • Educates and counsels individuals, families, co-workers, managers, and others where indicated and advocates for individuals to promote full participation and improving quality of life.
  • Assists in crisis intervention upon request.
  • Maintains compliance with appropriate federal and state regulations, professional standards, and Board policy, including DODD regulations, and standards set by the Ohio Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Attends Individual Plan meetings and/or makes recommendations for programming to the team, writes objectives, discusses methods of implementation, identifies materials to be used, and implements treatment or trains others.
  • Fulfills normal additional duties and responsibilities appropriate for the position and required for safe operation of the program.
  • Must follow safety and health rules and regulations, including, but not limited to, OSHA standards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited college/university.
  • Experience preferred but CFY available.
  • One year providing pediatric speech/language services. Not applicable to applicants from within the WEA1 bargaining unit. May be required to complete a Supervised Professional Experience within 12 months of hire, if necessary for licensure.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office. Operate job-related equipment, including the use of basic computer programs and systems. Read, understand, and communicate information and ideas presented in writing. Use mathematics to solve problems.
  • SLP licensure required.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Other Expectations
  • Proficient with computers and use of applicable software (MS Word/Outlook), ability to use general office equipment.
  • Must have good working knowledge and understanding of behavior support, individualized service plans, person-centered planning, medical, psychosocial, orthopedic, and psychiatric aspects of disability, client rights, waivers, benefits, self-determination, and HIPAA.
  • Knowledgeable of applicable statutes, regulatory standards, and reporting authorities.
  • Good working knowledge of DD programs, services, and community resources.
  • Ability to analyze information obtained from testing situations and make programming recommendations.
  • Ability to respond to crisis situations, using approved techniques and follow-up.
  • Effectively manage time to meet operational needs and desired outcomes and plan and organize the steps to implement new projects.
  • Listen to, understand, and communicate information and ideas.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Work as part of a team and work effectively with persons and communities from diverse cultural, social, and ethnic backgrounds.
