Job Summary

As a Probation Officer with the Commonwealth of Virginia, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety and providing support to individuals on probation. This position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day supervision to probationers, assessing their criminogenic and treatment needs.
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans in collaboration with probationers, district, and community resources.
  • Conduct home and community contacts, prepare reports, and testify in court as needed.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to ensure effective case management and supervision.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as social work, psychology, or criminology.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and make sound judgments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid operator's license.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation counseling, psychology, sociology, or criminology.
