Head of Responsible AI Scaling

Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Responsible AI Scaling team. As the Head of Responsible AI Scaling, you will be responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge safety measures across the organization, shaping the future of AI safety and responsible development, and driving the operationalization of our Responsible Scaling Policy (RSP) technical roadmap.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and grow the Responsible AI Scaling team, overseeing core work streams including Capability Evaluations, Safety Mitigations, Policy Drafting, and Risk Management & Governance.
- Make key recommendations to leadership to refine and implement Anthropic's approach to scaling responsibly, with the goal of raising safety standards in the industry and mitigating catastrophic risks from AI models.
- Drive the operationalization of the RSP technical roadmap and high-level commitments, making critical decisions as needed.
- Design and oversee the execution of testing frameworks to proactively identify and assess potential risks in Anthropic's AI systems.
- Collaborate with the Trust & Safety team to guide the development and implementation of cutting-edge safeguards, and with the security team to ensure advanced AI models are appropriately secured.
- Build relationships with independent oversight, testing, and assurance organizations, including in government.
- Foster collaboration with teams across Anthropic to integrate responsible AI practices into all aspects of AI development and deployment.
- Represent Anthropic's responsible AI efforts to external stakeholders, including industry partners, policymakers, and the broader AI safety community.
- Stay at the forefront of AI safety research and best practices, incorporating insights from relevant fields such as nuclear security, biosecurity, systems safety, and cybersecurity.
- Forecast further AI progress and risks, and help to chart a path to a future where transformative AI systems are secure, safe, and broadly beneficial.
- Deep understanding of the technical, societal, and ethical challenges in the development and deployment of advanced AI.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience in AI/ML, with a strong focus on AI safety, ethics, or responsible development.
- Proven track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving complex, high-impact initiatives.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, as well as strong stakeholder management.
- Demonstrated commitment to AI safety and alignment with Anthropic's mission.
- Experience in risk management, systems safety, or related domains is desirable.
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory frameworks and policy discussions in the AI field.
