Job Overview

The County of Los Angeles, CA is seeking an experienced Heating Plant Controls Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations department, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our heating plants and refrigeration systems.

About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong technical background in industrial control systems, as well as excellent problem-solving skills. You will work closely with our engineering team to identify and resolve issues related to plant operations, maintenance, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and repair industrial control systems, including electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose problems with plant equipment and systems, and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform annual boiler testing for emissions, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect, test, and maintain instrument mechanisms and circuitry for defects.
  • Prepare drawings for the fabrication and modification of instrument parts and components.
  • Operate, maintain, and inspect manual and automatic gas and oil fired high pressure steam or high temperature hot water boilers.
  • Disassemble, inspect, and test instruments for conformance with specifications.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in the maintenance and operation of high pressure heating plants and refrigeration plants at the level of Los Angeles County's class of Stationary Engineer II.
  • One year of experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial control instruments.
  • A valid Unlimited Steam Engineer's License issued by the City of Los Angeles' Department of Building and Safety.
  • An Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved Universal Technical Certificate in compliance with Federal license requirements as provided in Chapter V, Section 608.
