Job Overview

The Middlesex Sheriff's Office is currently seeking qualified candidates for the role of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) within a correctional environment. This position involves providing comprehensive nursing care to inmates and detainees across three shifts: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, and 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM.

The MSO is dedicated to delivering 24-hour healthcare services at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction. Applicants must be prepared to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as required by operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist medical professionals with clinical tasks and procedures.
  • Provide emergency care as needed.
  • Administer medications as prescribed and maintain accurate records.
  • Document all activities in the infirmary log.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on patient care and treatment plans.
  • Support clients through all stages of the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program.
  • Monitor withdrawal symptoms and conduct assessments as necessary.
  • Offer health counseling to clients and their families.
  • Coordinate with local pharmacies regarding MAT medications.
  • Maintain treatment records and oversee individualized care plans.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Health Services Administrator.
Working Environment
  • Position based in a correctional facility, requiring availability 24/7.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including nights and holidays.
  • Ability to manage interactions with individuals under stress and maintain composure.
  • Physical demands may include standing for extended periods and lifting heavy items.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current LPN license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of three years of LPN experience preferred.
  • Experience in a correctional or similar healthcare setting is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently while maintaining detailed records.

All candidates must verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States. A valid driver's license and the ability to pass a criminal background check are also required.

Salary: Competitive annual salary along with additional benefits as per the collective bargaining agreement.
