YOUR MISSION

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is pivotal in steering the organization towards financial stability by optimizing resource allocation, evaluating financial risks and prospects, and enhancing cost-effectiveness. The CFO is instrumental in ensuring the sustainability of the organization while overseeing finance, risk management, and payroll functions. This role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Define financial strategic objectives and align them with organizational goals across the network.
  • Establish the vision, strategy, and performance metrics for fiscal management, budgeting, reporting, and auditing.
  • Ensure financial strategies are coherent and aligned across various functions with specific timelines.
  • Articulate financial vision, strategy, priorities, and metrics to stakeholders.
  • Develop, manage, and mentor financial team members.
  • Set clear, data-driven short-term and long-term priorities.
  • Enhance effective systems and promote collaboration among school leaders.
  • Provide financial coaching and support to schools within the network.

Finance & Operations

  • Lead the annual planning and budgeting cycle for the organization.
  • Deliver data-driven financial reporting, operations, and accounting, including updated budgets and forecasts.
  • Manage the annual auditing process.
  • Ensure compliance with financial documentation and regulatory reporting, including tax obligations.
  • Oversee bookkeeping, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, and monthly financial close processes.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders, HR, and fundraising teams.

Facilities and Asset Management

  • Manage the financial aspects of facilities operations.
  • Develop and oversee costs related to long-term facility planning.
  • Support organizational growth and infrastructure needs.
  • Ensure compliance with local and state regulations.

Procurement Management

  • Assess capital purchasing requirements with the CEO.
  • Review contracts and pricing for ongoing services and frequently purchased products.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies.

Risk Management and Internal Controls

  • Conduct risk management assessments.
  • Maintain sound fiscal policies and continuously enhance financial operations.
  • Establish and uphold robust internal controls.
  • Oversee and manage appropriate insurance policies.
  • Coordinate annual insurance audit processes.

Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure compliance systems, staffing, and tools are in place for annual cycles.
  • Supervise staff managing federal and state grants.
  • Guarantee adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement

● Foster collaboration with leadership, department heads, and school administrators.

● Act as a key liaison to external stakeholders.

● Engage with the community, parents, and other stakeholders to cultivate trust and transparency.

Partner School Financial Services

● Develop, maintain, and renew contracts with partner schools.

  • Oversee services provided to partner schools.

Finance/Business Team Development

  • Design and implement tailored professional development programs.
  • Manage and mentor finance/business managers.
  • Collaborate with the talent team.
  • Coach and develop teams on essential competencies.

YOU HAVE

  • A Master's degree; ideally an MBA or a master's in accounting, finance, or a related discipline.
  • 10 years of professional experience, with at least 5 years in a finance-related role.
  • Comprehensive understanding of fundamental accounting principles, particularly in nonprofit accounting.
  • Experience in preparing, overseeing, and managing substantial budgets.
  • Proven track record of working collaboratively with lenders, funders, and consultants.
  • Familiarity with the legal and ethical standards applicable to the role.

COMPENSATION

  • Competitive salary based on qualifications and experience, ranging from $134,000 to $194,000.
  • This position offers flexibility in location.
