Key Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, which includes direct patient care, patient and family education, and managing transitions of care.
The RN plays a vital role in supporting professional nursing practices across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to meet the needs of patients and their families.
Operating within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients.
Professional Leadership
The RN provides leadership through roles such as preceptor, engaging in both informal and formal leadership activities, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability.
Exceptional communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in mentoring and teaching. The RN may also contribute to committees or projects.
Some roles may require the use of a personal vehicle as part of job responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program.
- Preferred: One year of RN experience in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in a collaborative team environment.
- Required computer skills; prior experience with electronic medical record systems is preferred.
- Flexibility to work various hours, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call shifts.
- Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the workplace.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities, effective communication, and strong critical thinking skills.
Licensure
- Current RN license as per state regulations.
- Arizona and Florida: Must maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.
- Midwest: Must maintain current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from recognized programs.
- Additional state licensure or specialty certification may be required based on the work area.
