We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant II to join our team at NYU Langone Hospital-Long Island. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant II, you will play a critical role in supporting the laboratory operations, ensuring the smooth functioning of our diagnostic services.
Key Responsibilities- Assist technical staff with daily laboratory operations, including maintenance, clinical, and clerical support.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area in the laboratory, adhering to strict safety and quality standards.
- Monitor, clean, and decontaminate laboratory equipment, glassware, benchtops, and instruments.
- Ensure all supplies are organized and stocked for operations, monitoring inventory and performing routine maintenance tasks.
- Perform clerical duties associated with laboratory operations, including data entry, record-keeping, and filing.
- Assist with completing daily, weekly, and monthly quality control charts, preparing statistics as directed.
- Maintain and file specimens, blocks, and slides in a retrievable fashion, preparing specimens for discard and transporting as needed.
- Organize and maintain laboratory chemical inventory, including storage, distribution, and disposal.
- Manage hazardous chemical waste and biological waste, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Recognize and report unsafe work conditions and hazards, taking corrective action as necessary.
- Assist pathologists, house staff, management, and technicians with requests and projects as directed.
- High School degree with science courses (biology and/or chemistry).
- Good communication skills and excellent computer skills.
- Preferred qualifications include an Associate's degree with coursework in chemistry, biology, or related sciences, and 6+ months of experience in anatomic pathology laboratory settings.
