Job Summary

The UMC Health System is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Physical Therapist Assistant to join our team. As a key member of our Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our patients' treatment plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the evaluation and treatment of patients referred to Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with Physical Therapists and other healthcare professionals
  • Provide education and training to patients and their families on proper techniques and exercises for optimal recovery
  • Conduct daily documentation and charges, and schedule patients for evaluation and treatment
  • Participate in clinical education and training of Physical Therapist Assistants and other support personnel
  • Assist in the selection and retention of qualified candidates to meet the employment needs of the department
  • Provide in-services and training to staff on various topics related to patient care and treatment
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Associate's program for Physical Therapist Assistants
  • One year of clinical experience preferred, entry-level accepted
  • Must have or be eligible for a Texas State license
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to apply the theory of Physical Therapy under the bylaws of the Texas State Practice Act and the APTA Code of ethics
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Ability to perform technical procedures and operate necessary equipment
  • High degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving and translating information, and charting and reporting
  • Supervisory skills and ability to delegate tasks as needed
Working Conditions

The Physical Therapist Assistant will work in a fast-paced clinical environment, with frequent exposure to biologic or infectious agents and potential for muscular strain in supporting, lifting, and assisting patients. The ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing priorities is essential.
