Job Overview

Matchbox has been a staple in the dining scene since 2003, renowned for its wood-fired pizzas, mini burgers, fresh salads, and chef-inspired entrees, including pan-seared sea bass and oven-roasted filet mignon. Our concept is centered around elevated American bistro cuisine, crafted with high-quality ingredients and a chef leading every kitchen.

Over the years, Matchbox has expanded to eleven locations across Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, and Florida, maintaining our commitment to creating vibrant, welcoming spaces where delicious food and drinks bring people together.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests and efficiently manage their orders in line with service standards, which involves standing and moving behind the bar throughout your shift.
  • Ensure precise drink preparation and maintain high standards of service.
  • Engage with guests to foster a welcoming atmosphere and build lasting relationships.
  • Adhere to opening and closing procedures and checklists.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the food and beverage menu, providing accurate information to guests.
  • Process orders through the point of sale system and handle payments accurately.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, which may involve physical tasks such as bending and lifting.
  • Follow safe food and beverage handling procedures as per local regulations.
  • Verify the age of guests to comply with legal drinking age requirements.
  • Complete assigned side-work tasks and strive to meet sales targets.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months experience in a high-volume, upscale casual dining environment; previous serving experience is a plus.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 10 hours.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic mathematical skills for handling transactions.
  • Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  • Flexible availability, including weekends and holidays.
  • Certification in responsible alcohol service is preferred.
  • High energy and stamina are essential for this dynamic role.
  • Effective communication skills in the primary language of the workplace.
