About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Welder to join our team at Altec Industries, Inc. as a Fabrication Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for performing welding and metal preparation tasks, including sanding and grinding configurations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct proper care of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and use it as required.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols to determine sequence and methods of assembling components.
  • Read and interpret work orders to ensure accurate completion of tasks.
  • Use basic hand tools, such as tape measures and specialty equipment, to perform tasks efficiently.
  • Learn and operate all equipment within the work area (cell) to ensure maximum productivity.
  • Perform rework as required to meet quality standards.
  • Support Altec Production System (APS) initiatives and participate in Root Cause Investigation (RCI) events.
  • Will be required to move to other work areas to support production needs and cross-train as necessary.
  • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on material, applying knowledge of shop math and layout techniques.
  • Perform Mig welding using a variety of arc and gas welding equipment.
  • Inspect assembly/components for conformance to specifications.
  • Trim, file, grind, sand, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces using hand tools and portable power tools.
  • Will be required to train new/current associates and maintain a clean work area (5S).
  • Assist co-workers and group leads as needed and participate in RCI events.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Vocational training is desired.
  • AWS D.1.1 weld certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend required.
  • Basic computer usage knowledge required.
  • Ability to read tape measures, blueprints, and schematics required.
  • Proficient knowledge of welding and mechanical skills required.
