Job Overview:
The Shop Foreman / Lead Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient workflow and equitable task distribution among automotive technicians. This position collaborates closely with the Service Manager to guarantee high-quality service on customer vehicles and optimize shop productivity.
We seek dedicated technicians who exhibit enthusiasm, positivity, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction. Ideal candidates will proactively address challenges and demonstrate a genuine passion for delivering exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the service department to allocate tasks to technicians.
- Oversee individual technician workloads and manage overall workflow within the service area.
- Guide technician team progress through training requirements and mentor technicians for certification readiness.
- Train and support new technicians in their development.
- Assist technicians in diagnosing and repairing vehicles as needed.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations to track career goals and technician progress.
- Facilitate team-building activities for technicians.
- Educate the technician team on maintaining brand and quality standards to efficiently resolve customer issues.
- Manage inventory of shop supplies and equipment.
- Monitor bulk fluid levels and shop efficiency through performance reports.
- Oversee maintenance of diagnostic tools and subscriptions.
- Assign housekeeping duties among technicians to uphold safety and cleanliness standards.
- Manage technician work schedules and enforce safety protocols.
- Collaborate with the service department to address customer concerns and assist in resolving complaints.
Qualifications:
- Positive demeanor and a commitment to customer service.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as an automotive technician.
- Strong automotive diagnostic capabilities.
- Significant investment in personal tools.
- Ability to meet or exceed a workload of 30+ hours per week.
- ASE A1-A8 Certifications required; Master L1 preferred.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicle makes and models.
- Aptitude for learning new skills and processes.
- Professional appearance and effective communication skills.
- Desire for long-term career advancement.
Physical Requirements:
- Occasional lifting or moving of items over 50 pounds.
- Ability to work with tools on elevated vehicles.
- Capability to work in confined spaces as required by vehicle repairs.
- Dexterity to efficiently use hand tools.
- Ability to stand or walk for the majority of the workday.
- Experience driving manual transmission vehicles.
- Proficient in navigating computer systems.
