About Our Team
The Discovery & Translational Sciences (DTS) team is focused on driving innovation to discover and implement transformative solutions addressing global health and development disparities. DTS plays a crucial role in helping the foundation achieve its ambitious global health equity objectives as defined by our disease-specific strategy teams. We leverage our unique position to invest in high-risk and long-term initiatives that have the potential for significant impact. Our efforts include enhancing existing tools, developing groundbreaking new solutions, and accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into actionable interventions. Key functions include identifying knowledge gaps, creating new technology platforms, investing in transformative ideas, and fostering a collaborative ecosystem for global health innovation. Our focus areas encompass vaccines, biologics, pharmaceuticals, microbiome interventions, and reproductive health.

Your Responsibilities
We are seeking a Portfolio and Platform Lead (PPL) for the DTS team within our Global Health Division. The successful candidate will develop and implement integrated product development strategies while bringing extensive platform management experience to the DTS portfolio. The PPL will utilize their technical expertise to navigate the complex landscape of global health partnerships, ensuring that:
  • The investment portfolio for product development is supported by comprehensive implementation strategies that yield effective and impactful interventions.
  • The cross-cutting platform investments are equipped with solid development and tracking plans that facilitate the rational advancement or termination of product concepts.
The PPL will apply their subject matter expertise in drugs, vaccines, biologics, and microbiome interventions to assist DTS in evaluating and refining portfolios for optimal global health impact.

Key Duties
  • Formulate long-term execution strategies aligned with the DTS team's overarching goals.
  • Collaborate with Program Strategy and Functional teams to develop and implement product development plans and manage enabling platforms.
  • Identify and evaluate key risks at the portfolio level, creating and managing mitigation strategies.
  • Proactively address misalignments and lead initiatives to refine execution plans.
  • Work with teams to identify new opportunities for platform development.
  • Oversee platform strategy and execution across functional teams.
  • Monitor advancements in novel technologies with potential product or platform applications.
  • Encourage the adoption of standardized tools and methodologies for effective portfolio management.
  • Collaborate with peers to ensure consistent and rigorous portfolio management practices.
  • Communicate portfolio dynamics to support strategic development and inform leadership about the state of the DTS portfolio.
  • Manage relationships with key internal stakeholders effectively.
  • Promote the foundation's core values of collaboration, rigor, optimism, and innovation within teams.
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical sectors at a senior level.
  • Extensive project management experience in R&D for vaccines and/or biologics is essential.
  • A PhD and/or MD in life sciences or equivalent experience is preferred.
Desired Skills
