Position Overview

The Oncology Financial Advisor plays a crucial role in guiding and educating patients regarding their financial responsibilities prior to treatment in the infusion center.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze treatment plans to identify necessary services.
  • Collect essential information for eligibility and benefit verification, including diagnosis and CPT codes.
  • Confirm eligibility and medical benefits with insurance providers for scheduled treatments such as infusions, injections, and chemotherapy.
  • Secure prior authorizations and document all necessary approvals in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Ensure patients meet the criteria set by insurance reimbursement policies.
  • Record detailed eligibility and benefit information in the patient's electronic chart.
  • Calculate patient financial responsibilities based on treatment pricing.
  • Prepare financial treatment estimates and counsel patients prior to the initiation of their treatment plans.
  • Identify patients requiring financial assistance and refer them to the appropriate department for evaluation.
  • Document all financial counseling interactions in the patient's electronic chart.
  • Generate daily reports for patient collections for the front desk staff.
  • Reconcile daily collection reports and prepare deposits.
  • Communicate with nursing staff and physicians regarding any delays in the financial counseling process.
  • Inform front desk personnel of patients needing financial counseling before treatment.
  • Assist and educate patients on their financial obligations, available assistance, insurance, and benefits.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a medical financial counseling role within oncology.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a financial counselor in oncology.
  • Knowledge of oncology coding and billing practices.
  • Professional demeanor and appearance.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with oncology billing practices, CPT codes, and ICD10 codes.
  • Ability to calculate drug billable units accurately.
  • Understanding of oncology terminology.
  • Proficient in electronic medical records (EMR) and practice management software.
  • Strong grasp of payer guidelines and reimbursement policies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Effective time management skills.
