Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our team at Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to work in a state-of-the-art facility, utilizing the latest technology and innovations to provide exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Function as a clinical leader and scholar at the Expert level of Benner's model of clinical practice or according to the Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, identifying normal and abnormal health characteristics, and develop plans of care.
  • Initiate appropriate interventions and evaluate care outcomes on a defined patient population.
  • Use expert communication skills to serve as a patient and family advocate, educating, mentoring, and coaching staff in clinical practice.
  • Assume an advanced leadership role in analyzing systems to anticipate and reduce risk and improve patient safety and quality.
  • Collaborate in the preparation of annual evaluations with supporting physicians and management personnel to ensure compliance with HR policies and guidelines.
  • Lead education and training of professional students through collaboration with department Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants and supervising clinical activity.
  • Provide clinical guidance as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant subject matter expert to administrative and operations personnel.
  • Partner with the interprofessional healthcare team to facilitate communication with patients and families across the continuum of care.
  • Foster staff engagement by demonstrating active listening, requesting, and acknowledging feedback, making equitable decisions, providing rationale when appropriate, and supporting organizational goals.
  • Conduct quality, timely, license-appropriate, patient care, under physician supervision, for a defined patient population(s), identifying normal/abnormal health characteristics, recognizing subtle cues to change in patient condition, and focusing on identified expected unit/department/optimal outcomes, individualized to the patient.
  • Prioritize care based on the patient's needs, abilities, and preferences.
  • Develop supportive policies and guidelines, offer educational resources, and teach coworkers to develop comprehensive plans of care in collaboration with patients and families, incorporating individual differences and preventive planning.
  • Help drive improvement of department scores for patient satisfaction, through peer-to-peer accountability to service standards.
  • Lead care rounds to assure patient safety and satisfaction.
  • Manage assignment of complex patient and other department demands, rounding on service lines weekly, as appropriate.
  • Provide safe and effective care by leading and initiating areas for improvement in patient care or unit/department operations, outcome, quality, and patient safety improvement activities in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Integrate, modify, and contribute to professional practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols by participating in unit/department projects, shared governance activities, or interprofessional team activities.
  • Lead and support colleagues and staff in conducting evidence-based practice/performance improvement projects and implementing findings.
  • Facilitate active involvement of others in team meetings, unit/department activities, and process improvement.
  • Implement department strategies to achieve financial targets and mentor others to do the same through timely documentation of care, optimizing efficiency, and other areas according to departmental specifications.
  • Measure and analyze resource allocation based on patient needs and staff experience, knowledge, and skills; contribute to unit/department plans for resource utilization and capital needs.
  • Promote quality healthcare by initiating, applying, and presenting research in collaboration with the Education Department, Research and Evidenced-Based Practice Council, nursing, physician assistant, or medical schools, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to professional practice standards at hospital/regional/national levels.
  • Identify, plan, and implement education for the unit, department, and/or service line in collaboration with team members and Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant leadership.
  • Generate and communicate new ideas to lead teams to creative strategies that improve quality or service and impact the department and address organizational or department priorities.
Requirements
  • Nursing and graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioners program OR Physician Assistant and graduate from accredited Physician Assistant program by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Progressive management experience preferred.
  • RN-Temp - Registered Nurse - Temporary State Licensure within 60 days.
  • APRN - Advanced Practice Registered Nurse - Texas Board of Nursing.
  • Magnet - ANCC Recognized Certification.
  • AANP - Credentialed member, American Academy Of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • AP - Prescriptive Authority - Texas Board of Nursing.
  • FCCS - Fundamental Critical Care Support (SCCM) within 6 months.
Work Environment

Houston Methodist Cypress Hospital, scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2025, will be Houston Methodist's ninth hospital and will incorporate the most advanced technology available from the day the doors open.

290 corridor, the hospital will be equipped with technologically advanced innovations implemented during COVID, many of them designed to make patient communication with physicians, staff, and families the very best and most effective in any healthcare facility.

Even though the hospital won't be fully operational until 2025, we have several services and specialties opening in 2024.
