Position Overview
Delivers therapeutic interventions in the oncology environment, encompassing a range of treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, monoclonal antibody therapy, blood transfusions, radiation therapy, and bone marrow transplants. Exhibits clinical proficiency by applying evidence-based practices throughout the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and outcomes. Integrates knowledge of safety protocols, cost management, and quality enhancement in all nursing activities. Recognizes patient, unit, and organizational priorities while applying the nursing process effectively.

Complies with all organizational policies and procedures, including but not limited to: licensure renewal, mandatory training, employee health assessments, attendance policies, dress code adherence, patient confidentiality, infection control, and medication administration. This role may necessitate additional training and certifications such as ACLS, PALS, chemotherapy/biotherapy, and transplant/cellular therapy education. Demonstrates awareness of regulatory agency standards (JCAHO, DHEC). Provides care in accordance with the SC Nursing Practice Act.

This position may require staff to be scheduled for shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists physicians with examinations, procedures, and other activities related to direct patient care. 10%
  • Coordinates patient appointments for diagnostic tests, consultations, referrals, and hospital admissions. 10%
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of medical supplies and ensures equipment is functioning properly. 10%
  • Records patients' vital signs and other encounter data in patient charts, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete. Gathers brief medical histories and chief complaints from patients. 15%
  • Processes prescription requests for patients according to physician orders. 10%
  • Prepares examination rooms with necessary instruments, supplies, and equipment. Cleans examination rooms between procedures and exams. 5%
  • Handles clinically related phone calls, screening and forwarding those that require physician attention. 15%
  • Completes medical and physical history forms and other related documentation for insurance purposes. 10%
  • Informs physicians of any changes in schedules. 5%
  • Utilizes advanced nursing skills and telephone triage protocols to assess and prioritize various conditions and symptoms. %

Essential Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.

Minimum of one year of experience as a registered nurse.

Licensure/Certifications Required

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in South Carolina.

Alternative Qualifications

In lieu of one year of registered nurse experience, successful completion of the Prisma Health Nurse Residency Program or a comparable residency from another organization will be accepted.

In lieu of one year of registered nurse experience, one year of licensed practical nurse (LPN) experience will be accepted.

Additional Skills and Experience Required

Proficient in patient equipment (vital signs, suction, defibrillator).
