The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team. As a Research Associate, you will work under the supervision of Dr. Christopher Paolucci, Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering, on a project accelerating the development of catalysts used for production of chemicals from transient operation.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in kinetic simulations for multi-phase systems, non-linear-dynamics, and machine-learning based optimizations of reactor protocols.
- Collaborate with the research team to design and implement experiments to test and validate catalyst performance.
- Develop and maintain high-performance computing codes to simulate and analyze complex chemical reactions.
- Communicate research findings through papers and conference presentations in the heterogeneous catalysis community.
- PhD in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in molecular simulation, mathematical modeling, and machine learning.
- Ability to proficiently write code and use high-performance parallel computing resources.
- Prior experience with experimental kinetic and characterization protocols for heterogeneous catalysts is preferred.
- A one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
