Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Medication Technician to join our team at Sterling Ridge Senior Living. As a Medication Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and secure delivery of medications and health-related items to our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Order, store, and assist with medications according to Community and regulatory policy and procedure, and current physician orders.
  • Administer routine non-injectable, oral, rectal, or topical medications, following accepted practices, as ordered by the physician.
  • Maintain accurate medication and treatment records.
  • Record medications or treatments administered or omitted on the resident's clinical record sheet.
  • Record reasons a medication was omitted or if a PRN medication was given.
  • Record narcotics administered or received on the appropriate controlled drug count sheet.
  • Promptly report any medication errors made or noted. Complete appropriate forms.
  • Maintain service plans and may participate in Service Plan reviews when deemed appropriate by Health Services Director.
  • Receives reports from the previous shift Resident Assistants and Medication Tech(s).
  • Reads the Communication Log and shower schedule for information and changes at the beginning of each day.
  • Documents in the Communication Log and Progress notes, as appropriate throughout the day.
  • Assists residents with activities of daily living, environmental orientation, vital signs, First Aid wound care, and communication with outside healthcare professionals.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of infection control and universal precautions.
  • Documents care given adhering to Community policies and procedures.
  • Maintains clean, neat, comfortable, safe environment for residents, staff, and visitors. Assures doors are alarmed during scheduled times.
  • Reports deficiencies observed in resident apartments, clothing, and linen to the Health Services Director or Executive Director.
  • Completes an Incident Report form as needed for any unusual occurrence, whether with a resident or coworker.
  • Observes and communicates any changes in resident physical or mental status as directed.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with fire, missing persons, and other emergency procedures, follows facility policy and procedures detailed in fire and disaster plans.
  • Avoids loss, breakage, and waste of supplies and equipment. And maintains a neat and orderly Medication Room.
  • Wears name tag at all times.
  • Assists residents moving in or out as directed.
  • Maintains current resident record for each resident including but not limited to, obtaining current physician orders, clarifying orders, and alert and monthly charting.
  • Oversees and monitors floor staff as acting supervisor in the absence of Health Services Director or Licensed Nurse.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and
  • One (1) to three (3) years related experience and training; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification is not required in those States that allow for nurse delegation for medication (California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington), though maintaining State certification as a CMA (Certified Medication Tech) may be considered as part of the employee's experience.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and drug test.
  • CPR and First Aid certified.
  • Food Handlers Card.
