Key Responsibilities:
As a Legal Counsel II at Mercury, you will deliver legal representation for Mercury and/or its insured parties in the defense of moderate to complex personal injury claims. Your case management responsibilities will commence from the initial stages of filing responsive pleadings through discovery and ultimately to trial. You will be tasked with developing and executing strategies for all phases of litigation while collaborating closely with our claims partners and clients. Your team, which includes a secretary, paralegal, and support specialist, will assist you in preparing essential legal documents, conducting depositions, and researching and evaluating cases for settlement, arbitration, and trial.
Qualifications:
Exceptional communication and negotiation skills are required to effectively represent client and company interests in litigation.
Ability to proficiently direct legal support staff in daily operations to ensure accurate and timely completion of assigned tasks.
Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision, alongside strong organizational skills necessary for managing a reasonable caseload.
A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in insurance defense, including jury trial experience, is required.
A law degree and admission to the California Bar are mandatory. Candidates must also reside in the State and Geographic Region where assigned files are venued.
