Northrop Grumman's Manufacturing Operations Engineering division is in search of a Principal/Senior Principal Manufacturing Systems Project Engineer specializing in Space Final Assembly. This role is pivotal within our Final Assembly team, overseeing process development initiatives across various manufacturing cells.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Define project scope requirements, conduct technical planning, and oversee manufacturing system development, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Encourage collaboration among Manufacturing Operations functional support teams throughout all phases of manufacturing readiness.
  • Oversee project costs (implementation, ROI), timelines, and risk management strategies.
  • Lead root cause corrective action (RCCA) initiatives.
  • Facilitate troubleshooting of products and processes on the shop floor across different cells.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Manufacturing Systems Project Engineer:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience (or 3 years with a Master's; 0 years with a PhD).
  • Experience in both manual and automated assembly processes.
  • Project management expertise.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project).
  • Familiarity with J-STD and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Manufacturing Systems Project Engineer:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or a related STEM field with a minimum of 9 years of relevant professional experience (or 7 years with a Master's; 4 years with a PhD).
  • Experience in both manual and automated assembly processes.
  • Project management expertise.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS-Project).
  • Familiarity with J-STD and MIL-STD requirements.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current and active DoD Secret level security clearance with a periodic re-investigation or an original adjudication date completed within the last 5 years.
  • Current Special Program Access.
  • Functional knowledge of Class C - Space programs and Space Standard Practices (SSP).
  • Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, CPLM, SAP.
  • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience with a Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiment (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Salary Range:
$102,400 - $153,600

Salary Range 2:
$127,000 - $190,600


The salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
